Post-fight review

Published
What happened
Allen submitted Duncan with a rear-naked choke at 2:46 of Round 5. Duncan was effective at range in the first round, Allen answered with dominant grappling in the second and continued grappling well in the third, Duncan rebounded on the feet in the fourth, and Allen secured the takedown and finishing choke in the fifth.
What the model got right
Although Fight Forecast favored Duncan at 59.1%, it explicitly identified Allen’s greater takedown and submission activity as major concerns for the pick. Those grappling advantages were directly consistent with the area of the fight that ultimately produced the finish.
What the model missed
The model gave Duncan’s defensive striking profile and lower UFC loss count enough weight to make him the favorite, but Allen’s grappling threat proved more decisive than those advantages. In a five-round fight, the model may have underweighted how repeatedly forcing grappling exchanges could alter the matchup over time.
Takeaway
Track whether substantial grappling and submission advantages are systematically underweighted in five-round matchups. The concern panel identified the correct danger here, but the overall weighting still landed on the wrong fighter. That is a useful research signal, not yet a reason to alter production from one result.
